Educator Preparation Program

Colorado State University

Masters of Education in Education and Human Resource Studies (Education Secondary Sciences)

Summer: The four courses that make up the summer coursework provide foundational concepts about schooling in the United States, different instruction methods to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom, various models of teaching and curriculum development. Additionally, students are provided opportunities with hands-on experience with children through elective summer learning programs in the nearby school district or Head Start programing.

Fall: This semester is spent continuing to develop skills in teaching, as well as increased field-experience work. Students spend a minimum of 9 hours per week in local PK-12 schools. Additionally, they are completing coursework focused on literacy & numeracy, interdisciplinary methods, and action research.

Spring: The culminating experience of the program is a full-time student teaching experience with a master PK-12 mentor teacher. Students will graduate from the program with over 800 hours of in-class field experience and equipped to succeed. Additionally, there is a one week-long capstone class filled with reflective activities and goalsetting for moving into a first-year teaching position.
